Ryan McNamara will perform MEƎM 4 Miami: A Story Ballet About the Internet, an expanded version of his 2013 Performa Biennial commission in New York City, during Art Basel Miami Beach.
For Performa, the ballet was performed at the Connelly Theater and featured 18 dancers of numerous styles scattered throughout the space, with the audience seated but occasionally moved, by dolly, to another part of the theater. These variations were meant to approximate “the cluttered nature of the digital realm.”
“I saw Ryan’s stunning performance at the Performa Biennale in New York last November and was astounded by the way in which MEƎM redefines the audience experience, making physical the virtual experience of link-clicking, and simultaneously incorporating many decades and styles of dance,” Marc Spiegler, director of Art Basel, said in a statement.
McNamara’s performance will take place on December 3 and 4 at the Miami Grand Theater.
