The San Antonio Museum of Art in Texas has accepted gifts of art from a group of Dallas collectors, the Alex Katz Foundation, and an anonymous donor.
Through the Alex Katz Foundation, works by Katherine Bernhardt, Richard Bosman, Juan Gomez, Lauren Nickou, and Virginia Overton will enter the museum’s collection. The Dallas Consortium, a group of collectors based in that city that is led by Dan Boeckman, has given the museum the Nic Nicosia piece Space Time Light (2008–09), a group of 10 large-scale prints that blur the boundary between photography and painting. And an anonymous donor has gifted the museum a piece from Catherine Lee’s “Clad Works” series. Some of the works have already gone on view at the museum, in its newly reinstalled contemporary-art galleries.
Suzanne Weaver, a curator of modern and contemporary art at the museum, said in a statement, “These extraordinary gifts from the Dallas Consortium, the Alex Katz Foundation, and an anonymous donor are a fantastic ‘win-win’ situation. . . . On a personal level, it is very rewarding to develop relationships with collectors and patrons who share our deep commitment to artists and truly enjoy being able to facilitate their creativity, vision, and success.”
