NEW YORK—Silverstein Photography, which represents the estates of photographers the likes of André Kertész and Robert Doisneau, is launching a second public space in Chelsea that will spotlight the work of emerging photographers.
The 2,000-square-foot gallery will be located at 529 West 20th Street, four blocks down from the gallery’s main venue on West 24th Street. It is scheduled to open next month.
“We want to show a variety of works that are of the moment,” gallery owner Bruce Silverstein told ARTnewsletter. Pointing out that the new gallery will emphasize one-person exhibitions, he says use of the space will be “flexible,” enabling artists to present their works as they see fit.
“We won’t necessarily be representing these artists,” Silverstein explains. “There is so much interesting, important work being done today that we feel it necessary to devote greater effort toward giving these artists the opportunity to be seen.”
