The Smithsonian American Art Museum in Washington, D.C., has named David Voyles deputy director. Voyles takes over the position from Rachel Allen, who retired from the museum after having worked there for 45 years.
Voyles was previously the director of the Smithsonian’s Office of Planning, Management, and Budget, and has been with the museum for more than two decades. During his time there, he has helped secure Congressional funding for the Smithsonian and managed various campaign budgets at the museum. Prior to serving as director of the department, he was senior administrative officer for the Smithsonian’s Office of the Under Secretary for Finance and Administration.
In a statement, Voyles said, “I am excited to undertake this leadership role at SAAM and to contribute my skills to this leading museum. I look forward to working with the director and talented staff to build on its success and expand its reach and programs.”
