NEW YORK—Sotheby’s is expanding its management team in Asia, the firm announced May 3. Kevin Ching, formerly with the luxury-goods company Dickson Concepts (International) Ltd., Hong Kong, has been named as chief executive officer of Sotheby’s Asia, with responsibility for expansion in the region, especially mainland China.
The growth of the art market in Asia during recent years has been an integral factor in overall revenue growth at Sotheby’s, with sales in Asia climbing by 94 percent in the last two years to $235.4 million.
Among other staff changes: Henry Howard-Sneyd, Sotheby’s managing director of Asia, will also serve as deputy chairman, Sotheby’s Europe and Asia. Patti Wong, chairman of Sotheby’s Asia, is the newly appointed chairman of Sotheby’s Diamonds, the company’s new retail jewelry business that is important to its Asian operations.
