Storm King Art Center, the world-class sculpture park in the Hudson Valley, will offer a residency program for the second year in a row, again partnering with the Shandaken Project to bring participants to the sprawling campus from June until October. The model for the Shandaken Project at Storm King is the same as before: the residencies run from two to six weeks with three artists boarding at Storm King at a time, and each participant will have use of their own private studio.
The application period opens today, and will end February 8.
“We are thrilled to continue our partnership with Storm King Art Center following a successful first season,” the Shandaken Projectʼs founding director Nicholas Weist said in a statement. “Having unstructured studio time is a crucial need for all artists. It is also an unrivaled privilege to have ready access to Storm Kingʼs permanent collection, new programming, and incomparable grounds.”
Last year, the program received hundreds of applications before selecting a group of 17 artists who work in multiple disciplines. Those selected this year will have free reign to dwell upon the permanent collection at Storm King, which includes work by Alexander Calder, Mark di Suvero, Maya Lin, Richard Serra, and many others.
