COURTESY CENTER FOR CURATORIAL LEADERSHIP
Sylvie Patry has been named the chief curator and deputy director of collections at the Barnes Foundation, the New York Times reports. Patry joins the Barnes from the Musée d’Orsay in Paris, where she was a curator. In 2012, the Barnes collection embarked on a controversial move from its longtime home in the suburban mansion of its namesake, Albert C. Barnes, to a new building in downtown Philadelphia.
Patry told the Times that the Barnes has “a collection that is known but not so well known, which makes it a very interesting job for a curator. It was so isolated in a way for so many years and there are so many stories still embedded in the collection. My sense is that the relocation has really reshuffled the cards.”
