On Monday, the Office of the Mayor of New York announced that the former chief digital officer of the Metropolitan Museum of Art as well as Columbia University, Sree Sreenivasan, has been hired to serve as the new chief digital officer for the city.
This announcement comes less than two months after Sreenivasan, along with two other executives, resigned from their respective positions at the Met as part of cost-cutting efforts in June.
Prior to this appointment, Sreenivasan had also been selected by de Blasio in the fall of 2015 to be part of the Commission on Public Information and Communication.
Sreenivasan, who was responsible for the creation of a Met smartphone application and a redesigned website, will now head the Office of Digital Strategy, which is in charge of engaging the public and representing city government through technology.
