The Blanton Museum of Art at the University of Texas at Austin has appointed Koven Smith director of digital adaptation, the museum announced in a press release.
“Koven is counted among the very best in the field of museum technology, and will bring to this position a fresh and distinctive vision,” the Blanton’s director, Simone Wicha, said in a statement. Smith will head the development of a new digital strategy for the museum, which includes building a new website as well as installing new technology in the museum’s galleries.
Previously, Smith served as director of technology at the Denver Art Museum, manager of interpretive technology at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and museum systems architect at the Indianapolis Museum of Art. He also founded the program “Drinking About Museums,” which brings together museum professionals around the world to discuss their profession in a casual environment, typically over a beverage.
