The Trump administration has released its 2020 budget proposal, and once again, its plan calls for the elimination of the National Endowment of the Arts. This is the third year in a row the administration has proposed cutting funding for the organization.
According to the Hill, the proposal states, “The Administration does not consider the NEA activities to be core federal responsibilities.”
The 2020 plan would not only scuttle the $126 million typically awarded to the NEA, but also the $435 million given to the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, which funds public radio stations such as PBS and NPR.
Late last year, Trump picked Mary Anne Carter, a former policy adviser to Rick Scott (who is now a senator from Florida), to lead the organization after the Obama-appointed Jane Chu stepped down as chairman.
