Ramírez-Montagut comes to the museum from MACLA/Movimiento de Arte y Cultura Latino Americana in San Jose, California, where she served as associate director and senior curator. (Thanks to Artforum for tipping us off to the news in The Times-Picayune.)
The Times-Picayune shares her job history:
She has lived in the United States since 2002, serving in different posts such as curator at the Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum in Ridgefield, Conn.; assistant curator of architecture and design at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, N.Y. where she worked on exhibitions such as Zaha Hadid and Restoring a Masterpiece: Frank Lloyd Wright’s Guggenheim Museum; curator of Collections and Public Programs at the Price Tower Arts Center in Bartlesville, Oklahoma; director of community outreach of the Queens Theatre in the Park in New York City; and as project coordinator for the Mexico Now Festival, New York City’s annual festival of contemporary Mexican art and culture.
If you’re down in New Orleans in the near future, the Newcomb has solo shows by Chakaia Booker and Katherine Taylor that are up through October 2.
