The Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art in Hartford, Connecticut, announced today that Grant S. Smith will be its director of development, starting on September 26. In his new position, Smith will work to re-up the museum’s philanthropic and fundraising efforts.
Much of Smith’s experience comes from outside the art world, although he has been instrumental in raising money at several Connecticut institutions. As director of major and leadership gifts at the University of Hartford, Smith brought $2 million into the school and managed a portfolio of 150 donors.
“I am excited to join the next generation of leadership at the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art,” Smith said in a statement. “The museum’s renewed sense of energy is palpable. From the recent announcement of free admission for Hartford residents to its rich and varied upcoming exhibition schedule, it is clear that the Atheneum is on the move. I am thrilled to be a part of the momentum.”
