Erin R. Corrales-Diaz has been tapped to be the new assistant curator of American art at the Worcester Art Museum in Massachusetts, the institution announced today.
Corrales-Diaz, who received her doctorate at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, with a dissertation titled “Remembering the Veteran: Disability, Trauma, and the American Civil War, 1861–1915,” comes to the City of Seven Hills from Spartanburg, South Carolina, where she is both curator of the Johnson Collection and visiting scholar at Wofford and Converse Colleges.
The newly named WAM curator, whose position is supported by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, has previously served as a curatorial fellow at the Shelburne Museum in Vermont and organized shows at Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio, and the Ackland Art Museum in Chapel Hill.
“I look forward to delving into this exceptional collection, and to building on the work my colleagues have already started, exploring narratives that expand how visitors think about the history of American art, both in New England and beyond,” Corrales-Diaz said in a statement.
