The Yale Center for British Art in New Haven, Connecticut, has received 125 photographs from collectors Claire and James Hyman. The works are currently on view at the museum, which will display them through March 29.
The gift brings modern and contemporary works, including pictures by Bill Brandt, Bert Hardy, Tony Ray-Jones, and Jane Brown that originally ran in magazines like Picture Post and the Observer, to Yale’s already-rich 6,000-work photography collection. Works by Martin Parr, Fay Godwin, Colin Jones, and Anna Fox are also represented in the Hymans’ gift.
James said in a statement, “Claire and I hope that by making this donation at such a seminal moment it will help provide a platform for the Center’s ambitions to develop its engagement with British photography.”
