The Neuberger Museum of Art in Purchase, New York, has announced Yto Barrada as the recipient of its 2019 Roy R. Neuberger Prize, which includes an honorarium of $25,000.
The French-Moroccan multi-media artist was selected by a panel of curators and directors with the museum at Purchase College, SUNY campus. Along with the financial award, her exhibition “Yto Barrada: The Dye Garden” will go on show at the museum for the first time in the U.S. starting in September. The exhibition was originally shown in Rome at the American Academy, and that institute will co-organize its American debut alongside the Neuberger.
Tracy Fitzpatrick, the director of the Neuberger Museum, said in a release, “The support of innovative, international art and artists is a major institutional priority and the Neuberger Prize significantly advances this mission.”
Past winners of the award include Tania Bruguera, Leandro Erlich, Robin Rhode, and Dana Schutz.
