Tomorrow, May 9, in Venice, the biennale begins its six-month run, and “Please Respond,” the latest exhibition from the itinerant gallery ML Artspace, closes. As usual with ML, which is helmed by, and named for, its two organizers, New York artists Marie Karlberg and Lena Henke, the exhibition has had a very short run: it opened just last night. The show brings together work by Ken Okiishi, Adriana Lara (a banana peel sculpture that some may remember from the New Museum’s first triennial, in 2009, “Younger Than Jesus”), Sam Pulitzer, Merlin Carpenter, and quite a few more. There’s also a nice press release by Andrew Durbin. (“Venice is like TV: a broadcast of and from no-place, a signal emitted from a studio set, half-submerged in the sea.”) A stone’s throw from the Prada Foundation, the show is installed in a ground-floor apartment that used to belong to the grandmother of curator Marta Fontolan.
