Moscow-born Olia Lialina is a renowned internet artist, critic, professor, and curator. Her 1996 work My Boyfriend Came Back From The War is a seminal piece in the history of 1990s internet art and has been referenced and remixed across platforms. Her work has recently been exhibited at the Kitchen in New York, Whitechapel Gallery in London, and the New Museum in New York, among other venues.
Lialina’s Consumer Report is a purely visual–photos and a few YouTube clips–document of a week spent installing a version of “Asymmetrical Response,” the artist’s collaborative exhibition with Cory Arcangel, in Ibiza. Lialina explains more below. —John Chiaverina
